Installing Apps
With Umbrel, installing powerful self-hosted apps is just a few clicks away. This guide will walk you through how to install apps from the Umbrel App Store, as well as how to add third-party community app stores to unlock even more functionality for your personal server.
Umbrel makes it incredibly easy to run apps on your personal server. Whether you’re looking to host your own cloud storage, protect your browsing with Pi-hole, or explore tools built by the community, everything is available right from your dashboard.
Installing Apps on Umbrel
Install from the Umbrel App Store
Open the App Store
From your Umbrel dashboard, click on the App Store icon in the dock.
Browse or Search
You can scroll through featured apps, browse by category, or use the search bar to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Install an App
Once you’ve found an app you want to install, click on it to view more details. Then just click the Install button. That’s it! Umbrel will automatically download and configure the app for you.
Install App dependencies (for some apps only)
Some apps may depend on the functionality of other apps. The Umbrel App Store will automatically prompt you to install any necessary apps before continuing.
Launch the App
After installation, the app will appear on your dashboard. Click it to launch and start using it immediately.

Login with Umbrel
Apps which may contain sensitive, confidential or otherwise protected data are secured by your Umbrel, automatically.
Note: Login with Umbrel only activates if you attempt to access a protected app in an unauthenticated browser session. If you launch an app from within the home screen, this screen won't appear. Some apps also have their own login systems.
Add a Community App Store
In addition to the official Umbrel App Store, you can expand your app selection by adding community-maintained app stores. These often include experimental or niche apps contributed by developers from around the world.
Go to App Store Settings
Click on the 3-dots in the top right-hand corner

to open a dropdown menu, then select Community App Stores.Add a Store URL
Under the “Community App Stores” section, enter the URL of the community app store you’d like to add and click Add.
Explore New Apps
Once added, click Open to view the apps from that store.
Note: Community app stores are not maintained by Umbrel and may contain experimental software. Always review the source and use your discretion when installing third-party apps.
